These days, the Amhara region has its own seed enterprise. Once a variety has reached release level, the Amhara Regional Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI) will provide basic seed freely to the Amhara Seed Enterprise. It will then be multiplied on a large scale and distributed to the farmers.

100 quintal (or 10 tonnes) per hectare are expected to be gained from the new variety of maize. Maize is the most widely grown crop in the CASCAPE study areas in Amhara and is produced by almost all households. Its nutritive value of 50 is lower than the biological values of rice (80) and wheat (66).
